About
South Barrie
South Barrie is where the GO commuters go. Barrie South station is on Yonge Street with 615 parking spaces, Highway 400 is at Mapleview Drive, and most of the housing is new because most of the land was farmland until recently.
What South Barrie is actually like.
If you are moving to Barrie and keeping a job in Toronto, this is usually where the search starts, and for a good reason. Barrie South GO at 833 Yonge Street has 615 parking spaces and is one stop closer to Union than the Allandale station, which makes it the shorter ride. On weekdays there are seven trains south to Union in the morning and seven back in the afternoon.
Most of south Barrie is new because most of it was farmland until recently. The Barrie–Innisfil Boundary Adjustment Act moved 2,293 hectares into the city's southern boundary, and the Salem and Hewitt's secondary plans govern how it fills in. That is why the streets here look different from the rest of the city — they are a different generation of building.
It also means the area is still under construction, and you should buy with your eyes open. The Province put $53.4 million into the Mapleview and Yonge Street widening and the Huronia trunk sewer, work that runs into 2028 and is intended to enable around 20,600 new homes. Some of that will be built near you.
Schools in and around South Barrie.
These are the schools in and near the neighbourhood, with the board each one belongs to. They are not a catchment list. Both boards set attendance areas by address and both say plainly that boundaries change, so confirm your specific address with the board before you let a school decide your offer.

Warnica Public School is being replaced, not closed. Ontario announced $29.9 million in May 2026 for a rebuild with 665 pupil spaces, roughly double its current capacity. Construction is expected to start within a year or two, subject to City approval. Boundaries are not expected to change, but if you are buying nearby, expect a construction site.

The highway, and the commute.
Highway 400 access: Mapleview Drive, Exit 90 — Park Place sits right at the interchange.
The best neighbourhood in Barrie for commuting, and it is not particularly close. Barrie South GO is inside the neighbourhood at 833 Yonge Street, with 615 parking spaces and free customer parking, and it is one station closer to Union than Allandale Waterfront. Exit 90 puts you on the 400 without crossing the city. The one caveat from GO's own listing: the station has no local transit connections, so you drive or get dropped off.
On drive times
I have deliberately not published minute-by-minute drive times here. They depend on the hour, the season and which end of the neighbourhood you are in, and a number that looks precise on a website is worse than no number at all. Ask me and I will tell you what the drive is actually like from the street you are looking at, at the time you would be doing it.
